Netflix had announced they would be hosting an Army of Thieves panel at Comic-Con this year. It was all but certain we were getting a trailer to showcase some footage of the Army of the Dead prequel.  Matthias Schweighöfer closed out the panel by premiering the film’s first teaser trailer. The teaser gave us a good look at the type of film we will be getting from the prequel.

As previously revealed, the film focuses on Schweighöfer’s Ludwig Dieter in the early days of the zombie apocalypse, as Nathalie Emmanuel’s Gwendoline recruits him to crack a series of legendary safes across Europe, indeed the very same kind of safe he’s hired to crack in Vegas.

This time around, most of the film will be taking place in Europe, and Schweighöfer revealed that the film was shot in the Czech Republic during the pandemic. The film will be bringing all the action-packed scenes we got from Army of the Dead, but without the zombies apart from a nod to the events happening in America.

During the panel, Emmanuel made an appearance opposite producers Zack & Deborah Snyder. The film looks super entertaining and seems to pack an action-packed punch while giving us a vibe similar to The Italian Job. We did not get an exact release date, but we do know it will arrive this fall.

Here’s the official description via Netflix:

In this prequel to Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead, small-town bank teller Dieter (Matthias Schweighöfer) gets drawn into the adventure of a lifetime when a mysterious woman recruits him to join a crew of Interpol’s most wanted criminals, attempting to heist a sequence of legendary, impossible-to-crack safes across Europe.
