Zombie Town: Dan Aykroyd and Chevy Chase To Star in R.L. Stine Film Adaptation
Dan Aykroyd and Chevy Chase are set to reunite as they will star in the film adaptation of R.L. Stine‘s Zombie Town. The Hollywood Reporter revealed that the former Saturday Night Live cast members will star together in the film described as a “mystery teen romance,” for the first time since the 1991 film, Nothing But Trouble.
Zombie Town is one of Stine’s novels from 2012 from his long line of children’s horror books. The novel follows Mike, who goes to see a film called Zombie Town with his friend. They are then met with real-life zombies who jump out of the screen into their world to terrorize the town. Who Chase and Aykroyd will portray in the film was not released.
The novel’s synopsis reads:
“This used to be such a nice, quiet town. But that was before all the zombies. When twelve-year-old Mike and his friend, Karen, go to see a horror movie called Zombie Town, the last thing they expect is for the title characters to come down off the screen and chase them through the theater. And it’s not popcorn these hungry creatures want to chomp on—it’s human brains.
Now Mike and Karen frantically try to flee through the panicked streets of their hometown before shuffling bands of zombies turn every last citizen into a ravenous flesh-eater. But if Mike thinks he’ll be safe once he reaches his house and warns Mom and Dad, he’d better think again. When the zombies say it’s lunchtime, no home is safe! Zombie Town is R.L. Stine’s delightfully spooky take on the horror genre that’s infecting the world, bite by bite.”
The film is currently in production and starring alongside Aykroyd and Chase will be Marlon Kazadi and Madi Monroe who will portray the two young teens from the novel. Also, starring is Henry Czerny, Thompson McCulloch, and Bruce McCulloch. The film is helmed by Peter Lepeniotis from a script written by Lepeniotis Jason Bourque, Michael Samonek, Michael Schwartz, and Dean Wilkinson. The film is produced by Trimuse Entertainment, Toonz Media Group, Lookout Entertainment, and Viva Pictures with Kim Coates executive producing.
Zombie Town does not currently have a release date but is scheduled for a premiere in theaters with it heading to Hulu after its theater run.
