Easily two of the most popular series not only of the 1980s but the entire DC library, we have seen previous iterations of these stories as Watchmen got not only a big screen adaptation but also a small screen live-action series on HBO Max which gave us an iconic adaptation which earned it many awards.

Crisis on Infinite Earths served as The CW‘s biggest crossover event for their Arrowverse lineup of DC superhero shows which led to the end of Stephen Amell‘s Arrow after he was killed during the crossover event.

Fans who attended the screening of Justice League: Warworld at SDCC were treated with the news. Not much was revealed as far as details on the film other than they would be arriving next year and that the Watchmen animated film would be rated R. A teaser was released for Crisis on Infinite Earths which revealed the logo of the film.

For those not familiar with Crisis on Infinite Earths it follows the Anti-Monitor who is seeking to eliminate all of the universes in DC‘s Multiverse which ultimately leads to superheroes from all universes banding together to save what is left of the multiverse.

DC‘s description of Watchmen takes place in an alternate world where the mere presence of American superheroes changed history: The US won the Vietnam War, Nixon is still president, and the cold war is in full effect.  It begins with a murder mystery before unfolding into a planet-altering conspiracy: When a retired hero is killed, his former teammates must investigate. The conspiracy they uncover will entwine their secret traumas and twisted psychologies, ultimately asking where the fine line is drawn between heroes and villains.

All eyes are on James Gunn and Peter Safran‘s DC Studios as they shape together their DCU and begin to drop announcements for Superman: Legacy as the list of heroes and actors joining the film grows. It goes without saying that DC has always shined when it came to its animated content and their adapting two of their most iconic storylines in an animated form should be something to be really excited about.

Stay tuned as more information comes our way about the Watchmen and Crisis on Infinite Earths animated films from DC.
