They Follow: Horror Film ‘It Follows’ Getting Sequel with Maika Monroe Returning
Neon has announced that the cult horror hit It Follows has a sequel in the works. Titled They Follow, the movie is set to begin production in 2024. Variety reported that the original star of the film, Maika Monroe, will be reprising her lead role as Jay Height. Additionally, writer-director, David Robert Mitchell, will also return for the sequel.
They Follow is expected to continue Jay’s story, exploring the events that unfold after the end of It Follows. While details about the follow-up are still scarce, one can only imagine the twists, scares, and daunting challenges that lie ahead for our protagonist.

For those who need a refresher, the original It Follows followed Jay’s quest to escape a relentless supernatural entity that pursued her relentlessly after an ill-fated encounter with her then-boyfriend. This invisible, unnamed force sought to murder the latest participant in a chain of cursed sexual encounters, leaving Jay with a difficult choice: either evade the creature for the rest of her life or pass on the curse to a new victim. The film ended on an ambiguous note, with Jay and her friend Paul taking a brave stance, committing to face whatever comes their way together.
With Mitchell returning as both writer and director, we can rest assured that They Follow will maintain the same unique and haunting tone that made It Follows a chilling success. Neon CEO Tom Quinn, who previously released the original film under his former company, Radius is also on board for the sequel. Despite its modest budget, It Follows grossed an impressive $15 million domestically and continues to be a favorite in the horror genre.

Mitchell serves as a producer alongside Jake Weiner and Chris Bender of Good Fear Content. Also producing the sequel will be David Kaplan, Erik Rommesmo, Rebecca Green, and Laura Smith, who worked on the production of the original It Follows.
Stay tuned as more information on They Follow is revealed.
