The Toxic Avenger Resurfaces in New Comic Book Series Coming to AHOY Comics

Matt Bors, the founder of The Nib and a political cartoonist, is teaming up with acclaimed artist Fred Harper to bring fans a new 5-issue comic book series, The Toxic Avenger. This series, which will debut this fall, stars the satirical superhero of the Troma Films cult classic films and is a perfect fit for AHOY Comics, a Syracuse-based publisher dedicated to satirizing various genres.

AHOY Comics Editor-in-Chief Tom Peyer expressed confidence in the series, stating:

“THE TOXIC AVENGER delivers what Troma fans want. The series has violent action, gross mutations, bursting pustules, eye-popping visuals, and trenchant humor.”

The legendary Lloyd Kaufman also shared his excitement, emphasizing the relevance of the Toxic Avenger in today’s world. “If there was ever a superhuman hero for these toxic, miserable times, Toxie is the one!“

Matt Bors revealed, “This series will combine elements of the original films with the Toxic Crusaders cartoon and characters in familiar ways, updated to tell a story of environmental devastation, corporate control, and social media mutation.” He further explained that at its core, the series is an environmental satire, shedding light on the helplessness of ordinary people trapped in dire circumstances.

In THE TOXIC AVENGER, teenager Melvin Junko finds himself transformed into the hideously deformed creature known as the Toxic Avenger after an ill-timed train derailment of toxic waste in Tromaville, New Jersey.

Despite facing a media blackout and the machinations of Biohazard Solutions (BS) and their Chairwoman Lindsay Flick, Melvin emerges as a hero fighting against these entities and the mutated threats plaguing Tromaville.

It has been quite a while since we saw the superhero jump back into the limelight. Over three decades since the Toxic Avenger was roaming the pages at Marvel during its comic run at the big two publisher. AHOY Comics is set to change that and deliver the 80’s splatter film vibes that we all love in a new demented and satirical series honoring the hero from New Jersey.
