The Tin Can Society: Rick Remender’s Latest Venture!

Geek Network is always thrilled when new Rick Remender news surfaces, and this time, it’s a cyberpunk, super-powered adventure that promises to be a game-changer! The New York Times bestselling writer Rick Remender (Napalm Lullaby, Deadly Class, LOW) has teamed up with showrunner/writer Peter Warren (The Auteur, The Incal, Kill Me) and fan-favorite artist Francesco Mobili (Old Man Hawkeye, X-Men, Daredevil, Secret Invasion) for an all-new miniseries, The Tin Can Society. Set to launch from the Giant Generator line at Image Comics in September, this nine-issue miniseries has generated significant buzz after its exclusive drop over at ScreenRant.

A Story of Friendship, Disability, and Mystery

In The Tin Can Society, we follow Johnny Moore, a world-famous tech mogul who was celebrated for pioneering mobility aids for people with disabilities, much like himself. However, Johnny’s life as the metal-suited vigilante, Caliburn, takes a dark turn when he is found murdered and his suit stolen. This tragedy prompts his estranged childhood friends to reunite and solve the mystery of his death. The series is described as a heartfelt and human exploration of lifelong friendships, disability, and the pitfalls of fame, told through a lens reminiscent of Stephen King’s Stand by Me.

The Minds Behind the Magic

Remender shared his enthusiasm for the project: “This is a story idea I’d had rattling around for several years, but it wasn’t until chatting it up with the amazing mind of Peter Warren that the project took shape, and it was immediately clear he was the man to write it. This is the sort of story that demands nuanced characters and heart above all else, two things at which Peter excels. Developing it with him has been an absolute joy. He’s taken this tale in wildly innovative directions, all informed by his deep love of comics, and we couldn’t be prouder of the result.”

“. . . an absolute apocalypse of artistic greatness, and every page is a wonder to behold.”

Warren echoed Remender’s sentiments: “I am beyond grateful to Giant Generator and Image for supporting this story about power, friendship and disability. Through the lens of one brilliant, disabled young man and the revolutionary suit he engineers to move more freely throughout the world, The Tin Can Society is a heartbreaking, tragic, and deeply human exploration of how a group of best friends handles shifting dynamics as they come of age.”

Artist Francesco Mobili added, “I think love is a big part of The Tin Can Society. Starting from the love we put into the book and continuing to the love leading this group of friends through their lives. This is a deeply human story about friendship, disability, life, death, and a murder… and yeah, there’s also some superhero stuff in it!”

A Visual Feast

With stunning art by Francesco Mobili and colors by Chris Chuckry, The Tin Can Society promises to be a visual masterpiece. Remender praised the art team, saying, “Giant Generator has a reputation for only working with the best artists, and that continues here. The union of artist Francesco Mobili and colorist Chris Chuckry forms one of the best-looking art Voltrons to ever grace sequential art. These guys are an absolute apocalypse of artistic greatness, and every page is a wonder to behold.”
