Dren Productions and Michael Dolce have teamed up to bring The Sire: Origins to readers in a collected edition for the very first which will include remastered images and bonus content for both new and returning readers to enjoy in a superhero series that pays homage to comics and the superhero universe. The series was written, colored, and lettered by Dolce with art by Daniel Leister, and the collected edition will include an astonishing cover by artist Talent Caldwell.

The series description reads:

Not all costumes are a perfect fit…

Donald Wright woke up trapped inside a superhero costume. Bestowed with amazing powers, he’s forced to battle villains against his will. Now Donald must find out why the how and why he was chosen for danger.

Dolce took the time to answer a few of our questions about the upcoming remastered edition of The Sire: Origins. Check it out below and be sure to grab your copy when it arrives at your favorite local comic shop on June 28, 2023.

Thank you for taking time to answer our questions. Can you start by telling us a bit about yourself?

Michael Dolce: Sure thing! I’m a writer, artist and podcaster who’s been lucky enough to be working in and around comics for…woo boy… over twenty years now. I got my start back at Wizard Magazine in the early aughts before launching my own creator owned superhero comic The Sire – which is currently back in stores nationwide with Sire: Origins.

You have previously referred to ‘The Sire’ as your baby. What were your initial feelings knowing that it was going back out into the world for another slate of comic readers to enjoy?

MD: Overjoyed. It’s a character and a story I feel so much at home with. And people consistently respond to it at conventions. I believe it needs to reach a wider audience again.

Superhero stories seem to always follow someone with aspirations of being more or being a hero but in ‘The Sire’ we see a bit of a different approach with Donald being forced to battle evil with his powers. How did you come to the decision to flip the superhero origin trope on its head?

MD: I just always questioned the superhero mythos. If I had superpowers I’m not climbing on rooftops and going on patrol. So in order to create a superhero universe I had to answer that initial question and being forced was my answer to it.

‘The Sire: Origins’ collects the first three issues of the series. Anything new that’s being thrown in for the collected edition that longtime fans can look forward to?

MD: Yep! There’s going to be some never-before-seen interstitial content thrown in, including some new story pages that help lead the book into the next installment Sire: Revelations which will be released in September. I’m also going to throw some goodies from the original that folks may not have gotten to see before.

Is the newly collected edition an indication that we have more in the works for ‘The Sire’ universe?

MD: Absolutely! The aforementioned Sire: Revelations trade will be released in September followed by all-new issues that only audiences on Kickstarter or conventions have gotten a chance to read so far. The real question is whether or not I release them as single issues starting with number seven or go full trade. Haven’t quite decided just yet, haha.

Thank you for answering our questions! Anything you have in the pipeline that you want to share with our readers?

MD: So much going on actually! I’m working on a follow up to the successful debut of Plan 59 from Outer Space for Dren Productions, along with Epicenter, a series we debuted on Kickstarter late last year. Also, I am the Chief Creative Officer at a company called Rogue Matter and have two series making their debuts at La Comic Con in December through them. Then of course, continuing The Sire at Dren, with issue #14 coming to Kickstarter as well.

It’s looking like a very busy 2023-2024!
