Vault Comics to Adapt Rhett C. Bruno’s Novel The Roach into Graphic Novel

Vault Comics has announced a partnership with Aethon Books to adapt Aethon CEO Rhett C. Bruno’s novel, The Roach, into a graphic novel. The story, which follows a vigilante hero who is permanently disabled in a gunfight and later finds himself called upon to protect his city, has received multiple awards.

It was the 2020 Independent Audiobook Award Winner for Best Thriller/Suspense and the 2020 Best Indie Book Award for Action/Adventure.

Vault CEO Damian Wassel expressed the company’s excitement about venturing into the superhero genre with The Roach, stating:

“We rarely publish work in the superhero genre at Vault. When we do, we look for something that redefines what you can expect from a superhero book, and pushes the limits of the genre. The Roach does both.” He also mentioned their enthusiasm to collaborate with Rhett and Kurt Yaeger to bring this compelling superhero story back home to comics.

Rhett Bruno, in his statement, described The Roach as a passion project, expressing his anticipation to see how the Vault team brings Reese’s unlikely story of redemption to life.

While publication plans and the creative team are yet to be announced, it has been revealed that Bruno and Vault will work closely with renowned actor, writer, director, disability advocate, and professional athlete, Kurt Yaeger, to ensure authenticity and care in the graphic novel’s representation of the titular disabled hero.
