The Old Way Trailer Features Nicolas Cage in First Western Role of His Career
Saban Films has released a trailer for the upcoming western film titled The Old Way. The film stars Nicolas Cage in what will be his first role in the western genre of his forty-three-year career. Cage now looks to bring his talents to the Wild West as a gunslinger looking for vengeance after the murder of his wife at the hands of outlaws. This brings his character Colton Briggs out of retirement with his daughter (Ryan Kiera Armstrong) by his side.
The film is helmed by director Brett Donowho from a script written by Carl W. Lucas. Donowho, Cage, Sasha Yelaun, Robert Paschall Jr., R. Bryan Wright, Micah Haley, and Johnny Remo produced the film. Joshua Bunting, David Haring, Christian Mercuri, Mehrdad Moayedi, and Fred Roos executive produced. Starring alongside Cage and Armstrong will be Noah Le Gros, Clint Howard, Kerry Knuppe, Nick Searcy, and Shiloh Fernandez.
Cage previously spoke with Deadline about his role and saddling up for the western genre, saying:
“After 43 years in cinema, I’m only now being invited to the important and storied genre of the Western with both The Old Way and Butcher’s Crossing. Being born and raised in the West, this is another good match and long overdue. I’m excited and compelled by the complex characters of both Briggs and Miller, and to find new ground to play at 57 is indeed galvanizing.”
The Old Way will be available in theaters on January 2, 2023, and Video on Demand on January 13, 2023.
