Scream Directors to Develop Escape From New York Reboot
20th Century Studios is looking to develop a reboot of a classic action film and they have enlisted Radio Silence for the Escape From New York reboot film. Radio Silence is made up of the team of filmmakers Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillet, and Chad Villelle. After the team of filmmakers tackled Wes Craven‘s Scream, successfully I might add as the film was received with positive feedback from critics and fans which led Paramount to bring Ghostface back for another film. Now, they look to take on the hit film by John Carpenter which originally starred Kurt Russell. Carpenter will join the project as executive producer.
There has not been any details released regarding plot or production plans or who will play the role of Snake Plissken, the iconic eyepatch-wearing star of Escape From New York and its sequel Escape from LA. As the film currently hunts for screenwriters to write the script, as that happens, let us not forget that Wyatt Russell not only bears a resemblance to his father but has also proven that he has the talent and influence to lead a big project as he did for the better portion of Falcon and the Winter Soldier on Disney+.
He has also shown his ability to film big action shots as he did as Captain America/U.S. Soldier and also in his role in the film Overlord. It would serve as a spiritual handing of the torch to see Kurt’s son take the role and would even leave an open door for a cameo from the original Snake.
The reboot plans come forty-one years after the film was originally released. The film followed a futuristic (at the time) Manhattan that has been converted into a max security prison. Although in 1981 this could easily be a future one envisioned for 1997, I am sure a bit of an update would be in order for the reboot and leaving the door open to implement some of the futuristic fears that many have today. Stay tuned as more information becomes available for the Escape From New York reboot.
