Here’s the official description for the reboot:

“Soulmates Eric Draven (Skarsgård) and Shelly Webster (FKA Twigs) are brutally murdered when the demons of her dark past catch up with them. Given the chance to save his true love by sacrificing himself, Eric sets out to seek merciless revenge on their killers, traversing the worlds of the living and the dead to put the wrong things right.”

In response to the trailer release, Bill Skarsgård shared his excitement about taking on the iconic role of Eric Draven in a reimagination of the story, tailored for a modern audience. He expressed his deep connection to the character and the responsibility he felt to honor the spirit of the source material.

Additionally, he praised the opportunity to work alongside the remarkably talented FKA Twigs, highlighting the magical experience of collaborating with her.

Skarsgård articulated his reverence for the original Crow film and emphasized his dedication to staying true to the essence of Eric Draven’s story. He expressed hope that the reboot would resonate strongly with audiences, echoing the impact it had on everyone involved in its creation.

Director Rupert Sanders has emphasized the importance of connecting with a new generation as he brings to life the reboot of The Crow. He highlights the iconic status of the original film, directed by Alex Proyas and starring Brandon Lee, and delves into its significance in capturing the essence of a specific era.

The Crow was a box office hit and has become a cult classic. Adapted in 1994 from the supernatural superhero comic created by James O’Barr, the comic series was published by Caliber Comics in 1989 and reached success leading to the film adaptation and three sequels that followed. The upcoming reboot has Sanders at the helm working from a script by O’Barr, Zach Baylin, and William Josef Schneider

Sanders draws parallels between the original film and the upcoming reboot, noting the intention to reflect the evolving tastes and references of today’s young audience. He underlines the influence of alternative rock, punk, and metal music, as well as the visual aesthetic of the film, in resonating with the youth of its time.

The smoky, rain-drenched streets, stylized sets, and distinctive characters have left an indelible mark on the cultural landscape, creating a cult classic that continues to captivate audiences.

In fostering a connection with the current generation, Sanders aims to infuse the reboot with a contemporary sensibility that speaks to today’s youth. He envisions the film as a bridge between past and present, introducing a new audience to the original source material while offering a fresh interpretation that reflects the language, style, and music of the current era.
