First Look at Bill Skarsgård in The Crow Reboot
The reboot of The Crow is looking to offer a fresh take on the iconic horror-revenge love story, featuring Bill Skarsgård and FKA Twigs as the tragic lovers, Eric Draven and Shelly Webster. The images released by Vanity Fair provide an intriguing first look, showcasing Skarsgård’s portrayal of goth rocker Eric Draven with his distinctive style which offers a different look than the one we got from the late Brandon Lee.

Director Rupert Sanders expressed his reverence for Lee’s legacy, emphasizing his intention to honor the original voice while introducing a new perspective to the narrative. Sanders praised Skarsgård’s depiction of the Crow, attributing a “disturbing beauty” and a sense of fragility to the character – qualities that align with the essence of the story.
The upcoming reboot promises a portrayal of Eric and Shelly’s dark romance, capturing intimate moments that convey their deep connection. Sanders emphasized the thematic elements of loss, grief, and the transcendence between life and death, drawing inspiration from influential musical acts like Joy Division and the Cure.

The film’s director additionally referenced contemporary artists such as Post Malone and Lil Peep, incorporating modern influences to resonate with today’s audience. The Crow reboot aims to evoke a sense of relatability, mirroring the spirit of a generation while retaining the emotional depth of the original storyline.
The Crow was a box office hit and has become a cult classic. Adapted in 1994 from the supernatural superhero comic created by O’Barr, the comic series was published by Caliber Comics in 1989 and reached success leading to the film adaptation and three sequels that followed.

Despite facing challenges during its production, including the departure of Jason Momoa from the lead role, the film has fought its way to a big-screen debut this year with Skarsgård taking on the mantle of Eric Draven. With a script by James O’Barr, Zach Baylin, and William Josef Schneider, the reboot is set to descend upon theaters on June 7, 2024.
