The Chosen One: Netflix Adapting American Jesus Series Adaptation
Netflix has announced an upcoming series titled The Chosen One. The upcoming series is an adaptation of the comic book series American Jesus by Mark Millar and Peter Gross. The series will follow a similar plot to the comic series in which a twelve-year-old boy discovers he has abilities similar to those of Jesus Christ. The question is… how will he deal with these abilities and the destiny that follows.
Netflix‘s full description of The Chosen One reads:
“After surviving a freak accident, Jodie, a twelve-year-old boy from Santa Rosalia, Baja California Sur, discovers he’s the returned Jesus Christ. He can turn water into wine, make the crippled walk… he can even raise the dead. How will he deal with his destiny and lead the world through a conflict that’s been thousands of years in the making?”
Millar wrote in his newsletter:
“What they’ve done with this is just masterful It looks like Roma or City of God, a six-part series of absolute beauty, and I’ve loved every second of this.”
Millar continued:
“The third and final book in the trilogy was just released a month or so back, nineteen years for a mere three slim volumes. One wag said I was lucky to get this finished before the REAL biblical Apocalypse arrived. It really did take a long time, but we’re so happy with it. This is going to be an absolute beauty.”
The series will star Bobby Luhnow as Jodie, Carlos Bardem as Father Pastor Cruz, Tenoch Huerta as Lemuel, and Dianna Agron as Sarah. The series is directed by Everardo Gout who also wrote and produced the series alongside his brother Leopoldo Gout. The series will adapt the comic book trilogy which just concluded its run of 19 years.
The Chosen One does not currently have a release date but should be premiering sometime in 2023-2024.
