The Change: Dark Horse and Whoopi Goldberg Team Up for New Superhero OGN
Dark Horse Comics has announced a brand-new graphic novel titled The Change. The new superhero story will introduce a brand-new hero that is set to touch on a different generation of fans. As much as we love the stories featuring teenagers inadvertently being given powers that see them rise to the calling and defend the world, we now get an opportunity for a new type of hero that sees themselves gain superpowers along with chills and hot flashes that come with menopause.
The new graphic novel is co-written by Whoopi Goldberg and Jaime Paglia with art by Sunkanmi Akinboye, colors by Alexandria Batchelor, and letters by Frank Cvetkovic. Cover art will be featured with art by Khary Randolph.
Dark Horse’s description of The Change reads:
Isabel Frost is a woman who has spent her life as wife, mother, grandmother – a life she feels isn’t all she had hoped for, with a husband who has grown in another direction. A college graduate with a degree in science, Isabel is an amazing gamer, who plays with people all over the country. With the help of her comic-loving grandson and irreverent best friend, she must learn to control her abilities and embrace her new identity as The Change – both the change of life AND her surprising and extraordinary superpowers.
Goldberg has long shared a love for comics while cementing herself as an icon in Hollywood and now wishes to deliver her take on a different kind of hero. One that might not fit the typical mold of what we see in superhero stories these days but also tells an equally important narrative that both excites and inspires comic book fans. Goldberg has teamed up with Paglia to bring this story to life as Goldberg puts it, Paglia is “just as outside the box as I am,” and together they have elevated this story into 72 pages of superheroism.
The Change will be available everywhere books are sold on November 28, 2023, and in your favorite comic book shops on November 29, 2023.
