YA Graphic Novel The Airless Year Breathes Life Into Self Discovery
Dark Horse Comics will be releasing an upcoming young adult graphic novel The Airless year that will turn the clock back for some readers to our time in middle school as we take a journey of self-discovery through the everyday struggles of finding out who we truly are. The series comes from Eisner Award-winning writer Adam P. Knave and Portland-based star artist Valentine Barker with letters by Frank Cvetkovic.
The press release offers the following description of The Airless Year:
“For Kacee, a queer Black girl in middle school, everything feels like a struggle. When she fails a class as a result of her stress and ends up in summer school, she starts to wonder why she even bothers trying–and ultimately begins to discover her own power to improve the things in her life she can control, and try to let go of what she can’t.”
