Sifu Live-Action Adaptation in the Works with John Wick’s Derek Kolstad
The kung-fu third-person action game Sifu is headed to the big screen as a Sifu live-action adaptation was announced to be in the works by John Wick creator Derek Kolstad. Deadline reported that developer Sloclap and Story Kitchen have partnered to bring a big-screen adaptation of the video game after a “competitive pursuit.”
Kolstad will be penning the script and producing the film alongside Dmitri M. Johnson, Mike Goldberg, Dan Jevons, Timothy I. Stevenson, and Jeff Ludwig.
Sifu tells the story of a young Kung-Fu student on a path for revenge. The game provided a unique feature that saw players age every time they died. This allowed players the ability to work themselves towards mastering their skills but was also a double-edged sword as they progressively aged upon each death. The game offered a heavy learning curve but the payoff overshadowed any negative remarks as players and reviews all spoke highly of the unique and modern take on the game which was an immensely enjoyable experience.
Kolstad is not only continuing his work on the John Wick franchise but is also getting his hands on adapting video games properties for the big screen. as John Wick 4 makes its way to theaters on March 23, 2023, Kolstad is also involved in the live-action adaptation of Streets of Rage which is a classic title with a huge fanbase that should make for another unique film project.
Stay tuned as more information becomes available for these upcoming projects.
