When I’m trying to choose a comic to read, there are, at any time, a different number of things that factor into which one gets chosen. Sometimes I’ll grab one that I’ve been meaning to read, sometimes I’ll find one with a favorite character that I want to catch up with, and sometimes I’ll find one that was recommended by a friend.
But sometimes, there are books out there that draw me in based on the art alone, or the art triggers something in my brain that says “Yep…that’s the one!”. Well, Punch Up Volume One from Oni Press did both of those things!

Here’s a little bit about the book:
Young orphan Pitch is an aspiring tournament fighter who has big dreams of traveling to the city and competing in the Wide Plains Fighting Tournament. He also harbors a secret wish—to be trained by aging tournament fighter Sonny Chan. Can Pitch make it in a big city filled with unsavory types that want to do him harm? And is Emperor Jayson, host of the fighting tournament, one of those people? Will Sonny decide to act decent . . . for once? Find out in this exciting blast of battle energy!
This book was so good! It felt like they took Street Fighter, O.K. KO, and Mega Man, threw them all into a blender, and out came this fantastic story! Zachary Sterling has crafted a solid story that I absolutely need more of! Will Pitch impress his idol Sonny? Will Sonny take advantage of his new protege for one last shot at glory? And where are all the fighters disappearing to?

Punch Up Volume One is set to hit stores on August 29, 2023! So make sure you get your local comic shop to order your copy, or go wherever you get your books and preorder your copy today!
