Jamie McKelvie Brings Series One for Sorrow to DSTLRY
DSTLRY has recently welcomed acclaimed artist Jamie McKelvie to their expanding talent pool. McKelvie, known for his work on The Wicked + The Divine and Young Avengers, has made the leap to DSTLRY to embark on a new horror/thriller series, One for Sorrow.
Set in London, in 1900, amidst the energetic pulse of a new era, One For Sorrow delves into the city’s underbelly where a monstrous figure haunts the criminal underworld, leaving behind a trail of grisly murders marked by black and white feathers – earning the moniker “the Magpie”. As the baffled police force grapples with the enigmatic pattern, three strangers find themselves entwined, holding the elusive key to understanding the elusive Magpie.
McKelvie reveals:
“This series is an opportunity to not only explore themes of darkness and redemption, but also to challenge myself artistically as the sole creator on this project.”
Unlike any of McKelvie’s previous works, One For Sorrow promises an intensely stylish, supernatural suspense thriller, likened to “John Wick fired through the lens of Guillermo del Toro”, pulsating with kinetic action, vengeful pursuits, and ghostly enigmas.
This marks McKelvie’s first solo creator-owned project in over a decade, signifying a significant creative venture. The series is set to deliver a distinct narrative resonating with the magic that unfolds when creators are given the freedom to realize their artistic visions, and vision is one thing McKelvie is never short of.
One For Sorrow #1 will be released at your favorite local comic shops and digitally in June 2024.
