New Evil Dead Spin-off Film in the Works

A new Evil Dead spin-off film is currently in development, with Sébastien Vaniček reportedly set to direct and co-write the project. Deadline has reported that Vaniček, known for his feature debut with the French horror film Infested (aka Vermines), has been chosen to lead the next installment in the Evil Dead franchise for Sam Raimi and Robert Tapert‘s Ghost House Pictures.

While details regarding the film’s plot remain under wraps, it is indicated as the subsequent entry following last year’s standalone sequel, Evil Dead Rise. Notably, this sequel departed from the franchise’s traditional cabin setting and was well-received by both fans and critics, achieving a box-office gross of over $147 million worldwide.

The original Evil Dead timeline commenced with Raimi’s The Evil Dead in 1981, featuring Bruce Campbell as Ash Williams. This film led to two sequels and a Showtime series that spanned three seasons continuing Campbell’s portrayal of Ash. The franchise has since seen itself invade many mediums with adaptations coming to comics, the small screen series, and video games.

The franchise underwent a soft reboot on the big screen in 2013 with Evil Dead, starring Jane Levy as Mia Allen. The latest entry, Evil Dead Rise featured Alyssa Sutherland, Lily Sullivan, Morgan Davies, and Gabrielle Echols along with a small cameo by Bruce Campbell.

Fans will surely keep an eye on Vaniček’s upcoming entry, as fans eagerly await how it will integrate into the beloved horror franchise. Given the success of his debut feature, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival and garnered attention at Fantastic Fest in Austin, the director is poised to see his continued success with one of the biggest horror franchises out there.

Shudder acquired Infested before the completion of its festival circuit, and fans will likely see it arrive on the streaming platform soon. Stay tuned as more information on the Evil Dead spinoff is revealed.
