District 9’s Neill Blomkamp Working on Off The Grid, New Cyberpunk Battle Royale
Gunzilla Games has revealed a teaser trailer for their new cyberpunk battle royale game, Off The Grid. They have also enlisted the director of District 9, Chappie, and Elysium, Neill Blomkamp to work on the project writing the game’s narrative. With the help of Blomkamp, Gunzilla is bringing their next game in what they call “battle royale 2.0 multiplayer shooter.” Most likely the studio is looking to usher in the next chapter of the genre.
The teaser trailer’s description reads:
“Dive into the heat of a covert corporate war in Off The Grid, a cyberpunk Battle Royale 2.0 multiplayer shooter where you shape the story and the gameplay. Unfolding on a dystopian tropical island, OTG sends you on a head-spinning assassination and sabotage missions to the greater glory and market share of your chosen faction. Tool up for 2023: it’s about to get bloody.”
Blomkamp spoke with GameSpot about the upcoming project, saying:
“The approach is to try to inject the story in a way where players have the option of engaging straight up in the battle royale or have the option of diving into story and story missions, almost like a campaign that you would be playing to follow a story narrative.”
The game will feature three organizations, of which the studio has not released any details for now but they will be fighting over a space elevator located on the game’s island. The elevator can be taken to an asteroid mining operation that leads to immense wealth and understandably why the elite would be willing to fight or kill over it. You can read more of the interview here for more details provided to GameSpot.
Gunzilla Games is aiming for a 2023 release date for Off The Grid. Check out the teaser trailer below:
