Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Has Revealed Its First Trailer

The sequel series to 2014’s Godzilla, directed by Gareth Edwards, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters has revealed its first trailer. The story picks up right after the epic battle between Godzilla and the Titans that devastated San Francisco. This series is part of Legendary‘s “Monsterverse,” which also includes the films Kong: Skull Island, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Godzilla vs. Kong, and the upcoming Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, which is slated to release on April 12, 2024.

Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell take on the lead roles as Lee Shaw, with Wyatt portraying a young Shaw who joins Monarch during its early years, and Kurt portraying the present-day Shaw as he tries to apply the knowledge he acquired in the 1950s when Monarch was first established, in order to study Godzilla and the other Titans.

Following the thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that leveled San Francisco, and the shocking revelation that monsters are real, “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” tracks two siblings following in their father’s footsteps to uncover their family’s connection to the secretive organization known as Monarch.

Clues lead them into the world of monsters and ultimately down the rabbit hole to Army officer Lee Shaw (played by Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell), taking place in the 1950s and half a century later where Monarch is threatened by what Shaw knows. The dramatic saga – spanning three generations – reveals buried secrets and the ways that epic, earth-shattering events can reverberate through our lives.

Co-developed and executive-produced by Chris Black and Matt Fraction, the series will kick off with Matt Shakman directing the first two episodes and serving as an executive producer. Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell from Safehouse Pictures, Andy Goddard, Brad Van Arragon, and Andrew Colville also join as executive producers.

Hiro Matsuoka and Takemasa Arita, representing Toho Co., the owner of the Godzilla character, serve as executive producers as well. Toho also has its own Japanese Godzilla film set to be released in December of this year, titled Godzilla Minus One.

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters will arrive exclusively on Apple TV+ on November 17, 2023. Check out the official teaser trailer below:
