Massive Publishing Announces Zorro Comic By Sean Gordon Murphy
Massive Publishing has announced that a Zorro comic is coming this October with a four-part miniseries by the mastermind behind DC‘s White Knight universe Sean Gordon Murphy. With Zorro serving as an inspiration for the creation of Batman, it all comes full circle with the popular Batman writer and artist having a hand in this new series which sees Zorro get an origin very similar to Batman!
Zorro: Man of the Dead will take place in a modern setting, backed by the promotional art circulating around San Diego Comic-Con, which shows a muscle car showcased in the art. Will Zorro be trading in his horse for a muscle car? I surely don’t hate that idea! According to Murphy, the idea of this series will be Don Quixote meets Narcos which will blend the modern setting with his signature style.
Murphy added:
“The idea for this book is Don Quixote meets Narcos, told in a contemporary setting. Diego is a young man who’s convinced that he’s Zorro—as a child, he had a psychotic break after witnessing the murder of his parents by the drug cartel in his village. To cope with the trauma, he embraces the 200-year-old legend of Zorro by putting on the mask, training with the sword, and waging a war against the Narcos to free his people.”
Only founded a year ago, Massive Publishing has already been making its presence known in the comics community with the addition of the Whatnot Publishing Imprint. They have already created a great partnership with Murphy after publishing his limited series The Plot Holes and the addition of Blake Northcott as Editor-in-Chief has secured Massive as a publisher destined to continue to trend upward and find itself as one of the top indie comics publishers in the coming years.
Zorro: Man of the Dead will release in October through Massive but there is also a Kickstartercampaign that will be launching as well through Massive for a “premium collected edition” of the series.
