Those that know me know that I’m not a big fan of Horror.  But one thing that people don’t know is that I’m a fan of the old classic Universal Monsters.  Frankenstein, Dracula, The Creature from the Black Lagoon, etc.  So when I heard about Jessica Maison‘s graphic novel Mary Shelley’s School for Monsters: La Llorona in the Machine, you could definitely color interested.  If this is the first time you’ve heard of this book, let me hit you with a premise:

Do you relate more to monsters than to humans?  Do you wish you could live at a school filled with magic and mystery?  Have you read Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein and really, really wished the monster lived in a world that loved and accepted it?  Then Mary Shelley’s School for Monsters awaits you!

Despite the many different interpretations of Mary Shelley‘s legendary monster over the years, Jessica managed to not only put an interesting new spin on Frankenstein’s Monster, but she also found a way to include Mary Shelley herself, along with a whole cast of characters that many of us are already familiar with.  This creatively inspiring story kept me hooked from the first page, and I’m excited to know the future of these characters!

The Kickstarter for this book has recently finished, but Jessica will be headed to San Diego Comic-Con, so be sure to find her there and grab a copy!  And if you can’t make it, check out her website and grab one there!
