Mad Cave Studios Bringing New Dick Tracy Comics With Segura, Moreci, and Osman
Mad Cave Studios has joined forces with the rights-holders of DICK TRACY comics, Alex Segura, Michael Moreci, and Chantelle Aimée Osman, and with oversight from Tribune Content Agency, is bringing the iconic character back to the world of comics.
For over 90 years, the evolution of Chester Gould’s detective DICK TRACY has captivated audiences through comic strips, radio shows, merchandise, and even a 1990s movie adaptation which starred Warren Beatty as the titular character alongside Al Pacino, Madonna, and Dustin Hoffman. Now, Mad Cave is set to revive the square-jawed lawman for all-new adventures and a nostalgic resurgence that will surely hit stride with both new and longtime fans of the crimefighter.
Leading the charge for Mad Cave’s DICK TRACY series are bestselling and award-winning author Alex Segura, acclaimed author Michael Moreci, and renowned artist Geraldo Borges, with creative consultation from Chantelle Aimée Osman. With their passion, expertise, and love for the character, this creative team is determined to bring DICK TRACY back with a fresh new take.
“We have been pursuing DICK TRACY for many years, so to say this is a passion project is an understatement,” shared Moreci. “We love this character, we love this world. And we’re approaching it with great care. We don’t want to create a new DICK TRACY; we want to create a DICK TRACY that feels rich and layered, suited to our times. We can’t wait to share what we have in store with our great partners at Mad Cave.”
Alex Segura added:
“This has been a long time coming, and we are all so excited to bring our grounded, noir take on the DICK TRACY mythos to life at Mad Cave. Michael and I have loved DICK TRACY, his stellar rogues gallery, and unforgettable supporting cast since we were kids. It’s been quite a journey to obtain the rights to publish new stories featuring this iconic detective, and I’m grateful that my collaboration with Chantelle and Michael has led us to Mad Cave. Geraldo’s art perfectly captures the grounded, cinematic vibe we’re striving for in this origin story.”
Mark Irwin, Senior Vice President at Mad Cave Studios, expressed:
“Mad Cave Studios is pleased to partner with Alex, Michael, Chantelle, and Tribune as part of our continued growth in the licensing arena. DICK TRACY brings a wealth of colorful characters and stories that greatly enhance Mad Cave’s already strong licensing output.”
Wayne Lown, Vice President and general Manager at Tribune Content Agency, shared:
“We’re proud to see DICK TRACY, an all-time classic of truth and justice, return to comic books through our partners at Mad Cave Studios. We look forward to daring new detective cases for this cultural icon, guided by their exceptional team of top-notch creators.”
Mad Cave Studios Senior Editor, Chas! Pangburn, called upon all DICK TRACY fans, stating:
“With over 90 years of storytelling across various mediums, everyone has ‘their’ version of Chester Gould’s yellow-jacketed detective. Mad Cave Studios is beyond honored to continue this legacy through a neo-noir reinvention of the character. We’ve partnered with all-star creators to deliver new tales of corruption, thievery, and murder.”
