Macbeth: A Tale of Horror – Shakespeare’s Tragic Classic Play is Reimagined in New Graphic Novel

Dark Horse has announced an intriguing new graphic novel titled Macbeth: A Tale of Horror. A reimagining of William Shakespeare‘s classic play The Tragedy of Macbeth. The timeless tale of Macbeth is known by many as the Scottish general is told he will be King of Scotland by three witches. At the nudge of his wife, Macbeth kills the king and is overcome by paranoia leading Macbeth to kill many more and inevitably, civil war. The re-imagined tale will be penned by Stefano Ascari with art by Simone D’Armini.

Dark Horse‘s description of A Tale of Horror reads:

“Deep within the walls of Castle Dunsinane, a seed of madness begins to bloom. Spurred on by the prophecies of witches and the whispers of his scheming wife, Lord Macbeth plots the death of his friend, King Duncan. This one cruel act soon spirals out of control, and murder after murder erupt into a wave of chaos and violence that threatens to consume all of Scotland.”

Ascari praised the characterization of the three sisters of the night being an influence in his adaptation, saying:

“When I saw Simone’s spectacular characterization of Macha, Badbh, and Morrigna, the three sisters of the night, I thought I would like to write Macbeth’s story from their point of view: eternal, all-powerful creatures who delight in playing with the fate of men like ravenous cats with unsuspecting mice.”

Macbeth: A Tale of Horror will be available at your local comic shop and digitally on October 5, 2023, and everywhere books are sold on October 4, 2023.
