Junji Ito Maniac: Japanese Tales of the Macabre Teaser Takes You Into the Horrors of the Upcoming Netflix Horror Anime
Netflix has released a new teaser for the upcoming horror anime series titled Junji Ito Maniac: Japanese Tales of the Macabre. The horror anthology series will bring 20 animated stories written by horror manga artist Junji Ito. The series is helmed by Shinobu Tagashira and is written by Kaoru Sawada. The debut season on the streamer will consist of 12 episodes in early 2023.
Netflix‘s synopsis of Junji Ito Maniac reads:
“The genius Junji Ito has long been at the forefront of the Japanese horror manga world. Featuring a selection of 20 macabre masterpieces brimming with his original worldview and fascinating characters drawn in his stunning style, including popular titles such as “Hanging Balloon” and fan-favorite characters Tomie and Soichi, this animated series will totally immerse viewers in the maniacal charm of Junji Ito.”
The stories included will be “Tomie” which is featured in this teaser as well as other mind-bending tales from the manga horror genius including “Back Alley,”“The Story of the Mysterious Tunnel,”“Layers of Fear,” “Mold,” “The Thing That Drifted Ashore,” “Shouichi,” “Ice Cream Truck,” “The Hanging Balloons,” “Tom Town,” “Headless Statue,” and “Library Vision.”
Some of the voice talent lending their voice to some of these anthology story adaptations are Ryohei Kimura, M・A・O, Aya Uchida, Ryotaro Okiayu, Sara Matsumoto, Takatsugu Chikamatsu, Yuki Kaji, Tomoe Hanba, Takashi Kondo, and Fumiko Orikasa.
Junji Ito Maniac: Japanese Tales of the Macabre will premiere exclusively on Netflix on January 19, 2023.
