John Wick 5: Everybody Will Be Gun-Fu Fighting as Another Entry in the Film Franchise is Confirmed
Lionsgate Films has announced that the beloved gun-fu film franchise will return as John Wick 5 is confirmed to be in early development. John Wick 4 just recently dropped on VOD with tons of bonus features and although the ending of the film surely had some fans questioning the future of the franchise, we now know that Chad Stahelski will be back for more as the studio reportedly confirms the next chapter.
The film is four entries in and continues to break through box office records and is continuously celebrated. It’s rare that we find a film franchise with four entries in get rave reviews and even see it praised as the best in the franchise but the John Wick universe is a unicorn among film franchises thanks to the creative prowess of Stahelski and star Keanu Reeves who continues to deliver phenomenal performances and surround himself in an ensemble supporting cast that further propels the franchise with every entry.
Lionsgate held a Q4 earnings call this year that had Joe Drake, Motion Picture Group chairman confirm the fifth entry in the John Wick franchise was in early development and further added the plans to expand the universe through spin-off films, TV series, and even video games, saying:
“We’re now moving across that franchise, not just in the AAA video game space, but looking at what the regular cadence of spin-offs, television really growing that universe so that there is a steady cadence of a franchise that there’s clear appetite by the audience. What is official is that, as you know, Ballerina is the first spinoff that comes out next year.
We’re in development on three others, including John Wick 5 and including television series. The Continental will be airing soon. And so, we’re building out the world and when that five movie comes, will be organic — will be organically grown out of how we’re starting to tell those stories. But you can rely on a regular cadence of John Wick.”

The John Wick franchise already has begun its expansion into a full-blown universe with Ana De Armas leading the Ballerinaspin-off and Peacock‘s The Continental premiering on the streaming platform with Ian McShane and the late Lance Reddick headlining the series. It’s clear Lionsgate has no plans of stopping there and likely John Wick 5 is the next stop for the gun-fu franchise.
