Harley Quinn Podcast Starring Christina Ricci Coming to Spotify

Narrative podcasts have been quite the rage with both big publishers releasing impressive takes on some of our favorite characters. DC Comics‘ partnership with Spotify will look to bring another entry into the podcast library with a Harley Quinn-centered podcast titled Harley Quinn and The Joker: Sound Mind. The new podcast series will tell the origin story of the popular DC character from her perspective with Christina Ricci lending her voice to Harley Quinn.

Ricci will star alongside Billy Magnussen who will voice The Joker and Justin Hartley as Bruce Wayne. The podcast series is written and directed by Eli Horowitz. Horowitz will be joined by Matthew Derby and Rachel Khong who will also write for the series.

The producers of the series noted this retelling of Harley Quinn’s origin story “will finally let Harley control her own narrative, instead of portraying her through the lens of the story The Joker has told”. The story starts off as you would expect with Harley starting out as an Arkham Asylum psychologist named Dr. Harleen Quinzel, but that’s where the comparison to past tellings of her origin story end.

This series is adding a compelling new element to the story in Harley’s father who is sick and needs a life-saving operation. Harley can’t afford the operation and she uses her connection with “Patient J” aka The Joker to get what she needs which leads the two down a “dangerous path that will change their lives forever”.

Harley Quinn has been a fan favorite for 30 years now since she was introduced in Batman: The Animated Series in which the voice talents of Arleen Sorkin won over the studio and fans and birthed the creation of one of the most popular DC characters today in all mediums of the DC universe.

Ricci is known for her iconic role as Wednesday Addams in the Addams Family and also has gone on to star in Sleepy Hollow, Casper, Speed Racer, Cursed, and most recently Yellowjackets. She returns to Addams Family in the upcoming Tim Burton series on Netflix titled Wednesday.

Harley Quinn and The Joker: Sound Mind does not currently have a release date but stay tuned as more information becomes available.
