Ghost Machine Establishes Monumental Scholarship with The Joe Kubert School
In a landmark collaboration, Ghost Machine has launched the Ghost Machine Scholarship in partnership with The Joe Kubert School, an iconic institution in graphic arts education founded by the legendary comic book artist Joe Kubert. This initiative underscores Ghost Machine’s commitment to fostering the next generation of comic book talent, further cementing its reputation as a forward-thinking force in the industry.
The Joe Kubert School, located in Dover, NJ, has a storied legacy of nurturing and developing some of the most notable artists in the comic book world, including Andy and Adam Kubert, Lee Weeks, Stephen R. Bissette, and Ghost Machine’s own Brad Anderson and Rob Leigh. Beginning with the 2024/2025 academic year, the Ghost Machine Scholarship will provide full tuition and supplies to a deserving third-year student, selected based on merit and potential. This scholarship aims to support the recipient in mastering the school’s comprehensive approach to sequential art, which includes traditional drawing and inking techniques and digital illustration and storytelling skills.
In addition to financial support, Ghost Machine creators will contribute to the educational experience at The Joe Kubert School through a series of guest lectures. These sessions will cover essential industry topics such as writing, visual storytelling, character creation, and the intricacies of creative collaboration.

The scholarship initiative aligns perfectly with Ghost Machine’s ethos. The creator collective, which includes renowned artists and writers like Brad Anderson, Jason Fabok, Gary Frank, Bryan Hitch, Geoff Johns, Rob Leigh, Lamont Magee, Francis Manapul, Brad Meltzer, Ivan Reis, Peter Snejbjerg, Peter J. Tomasi, and Maytal Zchut, was founded on the belief that all creators retain ownership of their characters and the company.
“Ghost Machine was created to disrupt the status quo with an innovative business model, giving character and company ownership fully to its creators. But we didn’t build Ghost Machine only for our present generation; we very much envisioned it to include the superstar creators of tomorrow. This scholarship not only honors the importance of The Joe Kubert School within the industry, but it allows us to pay it forward by building an environment that supports, mentors and helps elevate new and aspiring talent,” stated the Ghost Machine creators.
Anthony Marques, President of The Joe Kubert School, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, saying, “Not only has Ghost Machine established itself as a powerhouse in the comics industry, but their dedication and belief in nurturing the next batch of incredible comic artists and writers align with our mission at The Joe Kubert School. The Ghost Machine Scholarship is not just an opportunity for one of our students; it’s also a launching point for them to jumpstart their career and provides mentorship for all of the Joe Kubert School students. We couldn’t be prouder to partner with our friends at Ghost Machine and look forward to the wonderful work about to be created!”
Ghost Machine has already made significant waves in the industry with its publications. The company’s highly anticipated one-shot, GHOST MACHINE #1, topped bestseller lists in January 2024. This success was followed by a triple sell-out in April with the launch of monthly titles like GEIGER #1, REDCOAT #1, and ROOK: EXODUS #1, all of which continued to dominate the Top 10. Upcoming releases include the horror universe title HYDE STREET and the Family Odysseys series THE ROCKETFELLERS and HORNSBY & HALO, promising a diverse and exciting lineup for fans.
An industry-first, Ghost Machine operates under a unique model where all creators jointly own and manage the company. This structure allows for shared benefits from publishing, media, merchandising, and licensing, ensuring that Ghost Machine’s creative minds are artistically and financially invested in their projects.
The establishment of the Ghost Machine Scholarship is a testament to the company’s dedication to innovation, mentorship, and the continued evolution of the comic book industry. With this initiative, Ghost Machine and The Joe Kubert School are set to inspire and cultivate the comic book superstars of tomorrow.
