Gambit: Marvel Brings Back X-Men Visionary To Tell Untold Stories Of Two Fan-Favorite Mutants
Marvel Comics has announced the return of one of the most influential X-Men creators to the mutant universe with the limited series Gambit. Chris Claremont paved the way for some of the X-Men’s most influential stories and now looks to put a stamp on the X-Men universe once more with a brand new saga.
He will be joined by artist Sid Kotian, colorist Espen Grundetgern, and letters Clayton Cowles as Claremont takes us back in time to explore Gambit and Storm’s past as they forged their bond even before becoming iconic X-Men. The publisher notes that we will see untold stories in the character’s past, including a run-in with The Shadow King, and many more run-ins including some earthly and otherworldly.
Claremont spoke with AIPT about his return and why he chose to revisit this era, saying:
“Because I considered it somewhere that provided the opportunity for a whole-lotta-fun to be had by all involved. Think about it: who notices kids? The way Remy dresses, not to mention his great body and gorgeous looks, most of the time all eyes turn towards him. [Kid] ‘Ro remains functionally invisible. Target looks to Remy, ‘Ro picks his pocket. But the true reason, frankly, is that the story turned out to be a whole lot more fun this way.”
Gambit’s debut issue includes main cover art by Whilce Portacio & Alex Sinclair with variant covers by Salvador Larroca & Edgar Delgado, Inhyuk Lee,Peach Momoko, and Scott Williams & Sebastian Cheng.
Gambit #1 will arrive at your favorite comic book store and digitally on July 27th, 2022. Check out the preview below:
