From the World of Minor Threats: Barfly – A New Minor Threats Spinoff Series Coming To Dark Horse Comics
Dark Horse Comics has just unveiled the next chapter within the captivating universe of Minor Threats – a brand new spinoff series, FROM THE WORLD OF MINOR THREATS: BARFLY! The renowned comic book maestro, Kyle Starks (Where Monsters Lie), teams up with the dynamic duo of Patton Oswalt and Jordan Blum to spearhead the writing duties for this heartfelt coming-of-age story.
Barfly delves into the chronicles of an insect monster-man as he grapples with his identity in the perilous criminal underworld of Twilight City. Bringing this mini-series to life is none other than artist Ryan Browne, the co-creator of the widely-praised series Eight Billion Genies, while Nate Piekos takes charge of the lettering.
In the inaugural issue, readers can anticipate the main cover art crafted by the co-creator of Minor Threats, Scott Hepburn, along with three variant covers by Browne, Martín Morazzo, and Dan Hipp, with an additional cover artist to be revealed in the near future.
Embarking on a journey back to Twilight City, we find the Lower Lair bar, serving as the domicile for an assorted array of supervillains, miscreants, and ruffians. However, amidst this assembly lies a unique character – a humanoid mutant fly named $#!%eater, who must regurgitate digestive fluids onto his sustenance in order to consume it.
Seemingly resigned to a life as a lifelong minion under the employ of a criminal overlord, $#!%eater faces an existential conundrum when he finds himself bereft of a master to serve.
The creative team behind Barfly conveyed their enthusiasm for this series. Patton Oswalt expressed his irrepressible fervor for the punk rock human/fly hybrid protagonist, while Jordan Blum and Kyle Starks exuded their unmistakable zeal for this groundbreaking collaboration, replete with humor and artistry.
Ryan Browne offers a playful anecdote about his involvement in the project, underscoring the camaraderie and creative synergy at play.
