Fright Krewe: Eli Roth and Dreamworks Developing Animated Horror Series
Dreamworks has announced a new animated horror series Fright Krewe. The upcoming series is created by filmmaker Eli Roth and author James Frey which will follow a group of misfit teens trying to save New Orleans from an ancient threat. This is a change of pace for Roth who has previously provided a much darker take on horror not targeted at children.
The series logline reads:
“An ancient prophecy and a Voodoo Queen put misfit teens in charge of saving New Orleans from the biggest demonic threat it’s faced in almost two centuries. But, honestly? Saving the world might be easier than becoming friends.”
Although the pivot to animation with a younger audience in mind might be a surprise, it seems the roots of the series are still in line with Roth’s love of horror, although we shouldn’t expect the likes of Hostel or Cabin Fever but should make for a fun series that can be enjoyed by the entire family.
Roth and Frey will executive produce the series alongside Kristine Songco and Joanna Lewis with Mitchell Smith and Shane Acker co-executive producing.
No release date has been given for Fright Krewe but the 10-episode series will be streaming on Hulu and Peacock this year.
