DSTLRY: A New Revolution Begins with the Launch of New Comic Book Publisher From Former Comixology Execs
Things are set to be shaken up in the comic book publishing scene as a new publisher called DSTLRY arrives. The new publisher comes from former Comixology executives Chip Mosher and David Steinberger who will be spearheading the company. With two main goals in mind, the publisher looks to create an equitable platform for creators while also introducing an element of collectibility to the digital comic scene.
DSTLRY is hitting the ground running by boasting a creator powerhouse of “Founding Creators” that includes:
- Scott Snyder
- James Tynion IV
- Ram V
- Tula Lotay
- Junko Mizuno
- Mirka Andolfo
- Joëlle Jones
- Brian Azzarello
- Stephanie Phillips
- Jock
- Becky Cloonan
- Elsa Charretier
- Lee Garbett
- Marc Bernardin
- Jamie McKelvie
Collectively, these creators have all had their hands in some of the most influential comics today which include Grim, Skyward, Adora and the Distance, The Wicked + The Divine, November, Batgirls, Lady Killer, Wytches Mercy, The Many Deaths of Laila Starr, Ravina the Witch?, Something is Killing The Children and Batman. Additionally, DSTLRY will be bringing in former Vertigo and DC editor Will Dennis who will serve as “Founding Editor” while having an advisory board of investors including John Schappert, Mike Vorhaus, and Lorenzo di Bonaventura.
DSTLRY seems to hope to bring the collectivity of physical comics to the digital comic landscape with new issues having limited runs at which time the copies sold during that time are available to be traded and sold in a digital marketplace. Creators will benefit from a portion of the resale prices. For traditional collectors, don’t fret as physical copies of DSTLRY‘s lineup of comics will be available along with other physical and digital collectibles that will be available online and at your favorite local comic shop.
Creators will also not only get full rights to their work but DSTLRY is going further by also offering creators an equity stake in the company while an additional 3% of the company’s equity is set aside for the first three years to be divided among the Founding Creators.
Steinberger and Mosher released a joint statement, saying:
“Comic creators have historically received the short end of the stick when they create great characters and storylines for traditional publishers. DSTLRY is truly a creator-owned endeavor, with creators co-owning the company their creations fuel. It just makes sense that as creators help build the brand, they receive equity.”

DSTLRY does not currently have any titles announced or a launch date but more announcements are set to be released this year. You can visit their official site to sign up for notifications.
