Disney’s Hercules Getting Live-Action Film From Guy Ritchie
Disney has announced that a live-action Hercules film is in the works with Guy Ritchie set to helm the film. The director previously helmed the live-action Aladdin film in 2019 that garnered over $1B dollars when it was released. Deadline reported that the director would be taking on Hercules as his next project with Joe and Anthony Russo producing the film.
Hercules is one of the gems within the Disney library. Released in 1997, the film starred Tate Donovan as the titular hero who was kidnapped by Hades (James Woods) as a baby and made to live among mortals. As a teenager, he performs his rites of passage on Earth to earn his right beside the gods on Mount Olympus with the help of his friend and sidekick, Philoctetes (Danny DeVito).
Hercules still does not have writers attached and has yet to get a script that could push the film to a 2024 release or possibly further. Nonetheless, the film getting a live-action treatment should be something that fans are either very excited to see or cautious but with Ritchie’s track record with Aladdin and action films, the film seems to be in some mighty hands.
Stay tuned as more information becomes available.
