Dennis Hopeless Chats About His Gripping Crime Thriller She’s Running on Fumes.
Geek Network sits down with Dennis Hopeless to talk about his mini-series She’s Running on Fumes. Dennis Hopeless’s latest addition to the Comixology Originals library, She’s Running on Fumes, is a compelling crime thriller that draws inspiration from the sordid family history of the writer himself. The series, illustrated by Grass Kings artist Tyler Jenkins and featuring watercolor art by Hilary Jenkins, brings to life a gripping narrative set in Deepwater, Missouri, circa 1984.

Following a near-fatal car wreck that leaves a criminal named Jody severely injured, his wife uncovers his involvement in drug trafficking, prompting her to embark on her own criminal journey in a desperate attempt to support her family. The compelling twist lies in the fact that this tale of crime and survival is rooted in the experiences of Hopeless’s own parents.
We discussed what the creative process for this type was. Dennis said that a lot of his life was just getting bits and pieces of what truly happened. So he spoke to his mother throughout the entire writing process and got the whole story. He also did have to add that the entire process was very cathartic. In the end, it did help him heal.

The first two issues of the mini-series are now available on Amazon, offering readers the chance to delve into the complexities of crime, survival, and the human experience. You can listen to the full interview on any of your favorite podcast platforms or by following the links below:
