Dark Horse Spotlights YouNeek Studios with Behind-The-Scenes Look at Windmaker [Exclusive]
In celebration of Black History Month, Dark Horse is spotlighting some of the wonderful projects that have come from Roye Okupe‘s YouNeek Studios. Since Dark Horse and YouNeek Studios teamed up in 2021, the two creative powerhouses have wasted no time bringing bringing readers graphic novels putting a limelight on black superheroes and stories. One of the projects hailing from this collaboration is Windmaker.
The series is into its second volume and follows a nation in the middle of a civil war and as sides are being chosen, the spirit of the Windmaker begins to awaken. Will this lead to a nation’s salvation? The graphic novel series is written by Okupe, with art by Sunkanmi Akinboye, and colors by Toyin “Morby” Ajetunmobi.
Dark Horse‘s description of Windmaker Vol. 2 reads:
“The Republic of Atala’s president has turned into a ruthless despot, and one of his most trusted associates, Director Bo, is forced to choose a side in a civil war that threatens to destroy their beloved nation. The spirit of the Windmaker–an ancient and powerful protector of the Atalians–also begins to awaken within Bo. Is this awakening a ray of hope that will pave a path to salvation, or is this an omen signaling the end of a once prosperous country?”
Windmaker marked the first project to blossom out of the partnership between Dark Horse and YouNeek Studios which also led to Dark Horse releasing a number of titles from the series that had been previously released including E.X.O.: The Legend of Wale Williams, Malika: Warrior Queen, and Iyanu: Child of Wonder. Windmaker boasts an incredible universe and provides world-building that will fancy fantasy readers. Blended with culture and mythology, this series offers something to both newcomers of the Windmaker series and YouNeek Studios library and presents readers with what we hope will be some answers after volume 1’s cliffhanger ending.
Windmaker Vol. 2 is available at your favorite local comic shop now and will be available everywhere books are sold on February 28, 2023.
