Daniel Garcia: Behind the scenes of DANG! Comics
Daniel Garcia is an extremely talented writer, creating such characters as Xyber Ronin, LaserWolf, and Atomik Vamp, his newest character that will be coming to Kickstarter very soon! Daniel is also the founder and CEO of his own comic label, DANG! Comics!.
I got the chance to sit down with Daniel and talk about what the most outdated piece of tech that he still uses, what it was that inspired him to become a writer in the first place, where he gets his ideas from, and the importance of surrounding yourself with supportive friends.
Speaking of tech, we do a deep dive into Daniel’s favorite character, DC Comics‘s Cyborg. He’s always been a fan of the character with the fact that he is made up of cybernetics mixed with an incredible physique while also being able to shoot lasers. It was this that inspired Daniel to create his own characters with cybernetic parts and pieces.
Daniel wanted to make a character like Cyborg, but he didn’t want it to be a direct copy of the character, so he thought of something different enough that would still work. An alien rabbit from another planet. In addition to Cyborg, Daniel has also had an interest in vampires. Inspired by these two different subjects, he decided to combine them together to create his newest character, the Atomik Vamp! Sometimes the best creations come from taking two things you’re interested in and smashing them together to create a completely new thing!
We also chat about preparing to run a Kickstarter and the ups and downs that come with it, trying to maintain your creativity while trying to still manage to work a day job and spend time with your family, using social media to make the connection with other people, the importance of communication, what we can see from him in the future and any advice he may have for up-and-coming creatives!
Daniel’s creator-owned title Atomik Vamp #1 with a sneak peek at his newest character LaserWolf is coming to Kickstarter this month! He’s going to have a lot of cool rewards, including being able to grab a copy of his first comic Xyber Ronin #1!
