Danai Gurira Reprising Her Role as Okoye in BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER & an Origin Spinoff Series

Danai Gurira will be reprising her role as Okoye in two upcoming projects in the MCU.

The general of the Dora Milaje was a breakout character in Black Panther and throughout the entire Infinity Saga. She will be returning for the upcoming Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and she will also be getting her own spinoff series on Disney+ that will explore her origin.

It’s no surprise that she will be appearing in Black Panther 2. The film is currently being written and directed by Ryan Coogler. Although, surprising, given how amazing she was in her role as Okoye, and one of the most compelling characters in the MCU, it is a very welcome surprise. After having gotten news that a Black Panther spinoff series was in the works, whether this is the project that was mentioned, it’s unclear. Coogler is also attached to the previously announced spinoff.

Okoye kicked some serious butt and was a key piece in Wakanda’s structure and defense of the Kingdom and its people. I am definitely on board with learning how she became the awesome warrior she is now and exploring her character more in-depth.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is currently scheduled to open in theaters on July 8, 2022.
