Crystal Lake: Friday the 13th Prequel Series in the Works at Peacock
Peacock has announced that they have greenlit a straight-to-series order for a Friday the 13th prequel series titled Crystal Lake. The series will come from the creator of Hannibal, Bryan Fuller at the helm. The streamer also listed Fuller taking on the responsibilities of writing, executive producing, and showrunner on the series but no other details have been shared by the streamer other than producers Marc Toberoff, Victor Miller, and Rob Barsamian being attached to produce under A24.
“Friday the 13th is one of the most iconic horror franchises in movie history and we were dying to revisit this story with our upcoming drama series Crystal Lake,” said Susan Rovner, Chairman, Entertainment Content, at NBCUniversal Television, and Streaming. “We can’t wait to get to work with Bryan Fuller, a gifted, visionary creator who I’ve had the pleasure of being a longtime friend and collaborator, along with our incredible partners at A24, in this updated version for Peacock that will thrill long-standing fans of the franchise.”
“I discovered Friday the 13th in the pages of Famous Monsters magazine when I was 10 years old and I have been thinking about this story ever since,” said Fuller. “When it comes to horror, A24 raises the bar and pushes the envelope and I’m thrilled to be exploring the camp grounds of Crystal Lake under their banner. And Susan Rovner is simply the best at what she does. It’s a pleasure and an honor to be working with her again.”
Fuller is no stranger to adapting horror after creating a hit series based on the character Hannibal. The popular slasher classic has not seen itself on the big or small screen since the most recent entry in 2009’s Friday the 13th which starred Jared Padalecki. With details being kept under wraps, it’s all assumption as to where the series will take viewers but with it being referenced as a prequel series, it could very well delve into the state of Jason’s mother. Possibly in dealing with the hardships of Jason as a child or possibly her descent into the first killer after Jason is presumed dead.
No release date has been released for Crystal Lake but look for the series to stream exclusively on Peacock.
