Chip Zdarsky Returns to Eisner Award-Winning Public Domain with New Story Arc in July

Chip Zdarsky, the celebrated creator behind acclaimed series like Batman and Newburn, is returning to his Eisner Award-winning series Public Domain with a brand-new story arc. Kicking off with issue #6, this new chapter from Image Comics will hit the shelves this July.

In his own words, Zdarsky expressed his excitement about returning to the series: “Public Domain is the most personal work of mine to date, so I’m thrilled to be putting more issues of it out into the world again.” Zdarsky takes complete creative control in this series, handling the writing, drawing, coloring, lettering, and even the design, ensuring it’s a full and authentic expression of his artistic vision.

Zdarsky is also collaborating with notable artists Rachael Stott (Fantastic Four, Dr. Who) and colorist Eren Angiolini (Justice League: Last Ride) to create the in-universe comic book at the heart of Public Domain, aptly titled The Domain. This unique project allows fans to explore the fictional world within the Public Domain in a deeper and more immersive way.

In Public Domain #6, Dallas Comics is back in business, but Syd Dallas must navigate his complex feelings about reviving The Domain. As the pressure mounts from Singular Comics and Jerry Jasper, Syd’s journey to create a new comic for a new generation gets more complicated. Adding to the mix is a mysterious British heartthrob, Carter Dusk, making his first appearance in this issue—a must-have for collectors.

Public Domain follows Syd Dallas, a legendary comic book artist known for creating one of pop culture’s most iconic heroes, The Domain. Yet, behind the scenes, his sons, Miles and David, struggle with their father’s legacy and the intricate dynamics between creators and corporations in a world where billion-dollar creations dominate the entertainment industry. This new story arc explores these themes, providing a compelling narrative that examines the complexity of creative ownership mixed with dramatics of family legacies.

Public Domain #6 (Lunar Code 0524IM245) is set to release on Wednesday, July 3, with the accompanying in-universe comic book The Domain #1 following on Wednesday, July 10. The first issue of The Domain features two covers: Cover A by Stott (Lunar Code 0524IM229) and Cover B by Angiolini (Lunar Code 0524IM230). Both comics will also be available across various digital platforms, including Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, and Google Play. They will provide readers multiple options to enjoy the new arc and immerse themselves in the Public Domain.

Fans of the series can expect a quirky and thought-provoking journey through the challenging landscape of modern comic book creation and a closer look at the personal struggles and triumphs that come with it.
