British Paranormal Society: Time Out of Mind #4 Review – The Final Chapter of the Newest Mignolaverse Series Unravels Otherworldly Mysteries
So, one thing you will learn about me dear readers as we journey on through our comics odyssey together is I have a soft, probably flan-filled spot in my heart for a secret society that solves the mysteries around us that most would deem too strange for the likes of your local, more than likely corrupt, police detective. Bonus points if said secret society is from the past. Secret bonus points if are also from another land. I am both happy that I was able to review Dark Horse‘s British Paranormal Society: Time Out of Mind #4 and regretful that I am now out of points for the bonus variety.
British Paranormal Society: Time Out of Mind is from the world of Hellboy(Mignolaverse) created by Mike Mignola, this particular story is written by longtime Hellboy writer Chris Roberson who does a great job with this particular tale. The art is by Andrea Mutti who also absolutely understood the assignment and executes it masterfully along with cover artist Sebastian Fiumara who brings a very painterly vibe to the cover which I really appreciated. The colors are done by Lee Loughridge which when combined with the art of Mutti make for a style reminiscent of the Hellboy comics while still making something completely original. The issue was lettered by Clem Robins.
This issue where readers were left in the previous issue with our main characters under a trance of sorts brought about by the cult that run’s this particular village in England. Now I was not sure whether I should have referred to the island as Great Britain or England or any other number of colonial titles there are for the home of the greatest baking show of all time. Sorry, I am American and we really have failed in our public school system. Our main heroes are at the mercy of the local cult which, as anyone who has ever dealt with a cult will tell you, is not good. You hear that Tom Cruise!? But I digress.
As our story continues our heroes are shown the truth behind the stone this cult worships and they realize this truth spans time and space itself. This truth as with all truths is exactly what the cult in question did not want to know but will it be enough to save our heroes? Will the cultists be able to handle this revelation? The conclusion is both satisfying and brilliant. The only unanswered question can Tom Cruise take these hands? Don’t think I forgot Tom!!
British Paranormal Society: Time Out of Mind #4 will be available at your favorite local comic shop and digitally on October 5th, 2022.
