The creative and epic film and TV company, Blumhouse Productions, is branching out into the video game industry with a new subsidiary that will publish and develop video games. This new division has been labeled Blumhouse Games and is partnering with indie game designers to create horror-themed games for console, PC, and mobile.
Don’t worry about who’s running the show because the president of Blumhouse Games will be Zach Wood. This 30-year veteran in the industry worked for Iron Galaxy, Arkane, and Santa Monica Studio. Wood will be supported by CFO Don Sechler who was the former head of finance, operations, and strategy at PlayStation.
Wood shares the opportunity within the indie game space for horror, saying:
“Through my time in the industry, I’ve had the good fortune of working closely with developers to bring their ideas to life. There’s a unique opportunity for horror and genre in the indie game space, and I’m thrilled about teaming up with Blumhouse to meaningfully leverage the company’s brand, reputation, and creative talent,”
In his own statement, Blumhouse Productions president Abhijay Prakash says,
“For some time we have been looking to build out a team to start accessing the growth opportunity in interactive media. When we sat with Zach and Don they articulated an approach that resonated with Blumhouse’s model and we knew it was a perfect place for us to start our push into the interactive space. With their experience, sensibility, and knowledge of the gaming marketplace, Zach and Don are the ideal leaders to leverage Blumhouse’s unique genre strengths into gaming.”
As fans of the huge slate of horror movies Blumhouse has released we are super excited to see what they are able to contribute to the horror game genre. as they announced Scare us to death but do us proud!
One huge announcement has also come out of Blumhouse as they will be adapting the long-standing horror game Dead By Daylight into a film alongside James Wan‘s Atomic Monster. Story details and other news are yet to be revealed but the production companies are currently in search of a writer. As the game delivers a multiplayer horror experience and has also collaborated with many iconic horror characters and franchises, it will be interesting just how grand of scope will come out of this.
