Blue Beetle Trailer Unleashes Jaime Reyes Into the DCEU

DC Studios has unleashed the Blue Beetle trailer to fans today. The film stars Xolo Maridueña as Jamie Reyes who gains superhero abilities from an alien beetle that attaches itself to him. The alien technology is designed to protect its host at all costs and along with the super abilities, Jamie must also deal with the beetle having a mind of its own and they don’t always see eye-to-eye.

This is one of the final films that will release from the slate of planned projects before James Gunn and Peter Safran begin their new era of the DCEU as co-CEOs of DC Studios. The pre-Gunn & Safran era is coming to a close as the duo set to realize their 10-year plan for the DCEU starting with the slate of projects announced under “Gods and Monsters“.

Warner Bros. Pictures‘ synopsis of Blue Beetle reads:

“Recent college grad Jaime Reyes returns home full of aspirations for his future, only to find that home is not quite as he left it. As he searches to find his purpose in the world, fate intervenes when Jaime unexpectedly finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien biotechnology. the Scarab. When the Scarab suddenly chooses Jaime to be its symbiotic host, he is bestowed with an incredible suit of armor capable of extraordinary and unpredictable powers, forever changing his destiny as he becomes the Super Hero BLUE BEETLE.”

Maridueña, Adriana Barraza, Damian Alcazar, Espidia Carrillo, Bruna Marquezine, Raoul Max Trujillo, Susan Sarandon, George Lopez, Belissa Escobedo, and Harvey Guillen. The film was directed by Soto from a screenplay penned by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer. Blue Beetle is produced by John Rickard and Zev Foreman with Walter Hamada, Galen Vaisman, and Garrett Grant executive producing.

Blue Beetle will arrive in theaters on August 18, 2023.
