Black Box Chronicles: Horrible Future Cofounders and Celebrated Artists Team Up to Explore Space and Beyond
Black Box Chronicles is an exciting sci-fi anthology that takes readers on a journey through mankind’s exploration of space and beyond. This anthology collection features 15 interconnected shared-universe stories, co-written by Horrible Future cofounders Mark Schey and Chris Northrop.
Giving life to the collection of stories by Schey and Northrop is an ensemble of celebrated artists including David Mack (Daredevil, Kabuki), Michael Avon Oeming (Powers, Bulletproof Monk), Zach Howard (Hellboy, Wild Blue Yonder), Eryk Donovan (Memetic, Quantum Teens are Go), and many more.
Dedicated to the adventure of space exploration, Black Box Chronicles is a 172-page, full-color marks the centerpiece of a new multi-platform narrative universe that will expand to include art books, prose, tabletop RPGs, and more.

The anthology delves into mankind’s first steps into interstellar space, reconstructed from the records recovered from various spacecraft scattered throughout the cosmos. It presents a series of bold tales that span centuries in a fantastic yet plausible future.
Schey shares the adoration for thought-provoking sci-fi, saying:
“We adore thought-provoking science fiction. Black Box Chronicles explores what happens after technology leads to our demise. We aim to take readers on an emotional journey, shed light on the last moments of an individual’s life, and present these stories from a unique sci-fi perspective. The different award-winning artists in this anthology bring these recovered flight data recorder contents to life in their own remarkable ways.”

Northrop, the other co-writer, shared his excitement about working with internationally award-winning artists, saying:
“Horrible Future is a realm where original stories and ideas can flourish,” he explained. “I’ve always wanted to bring together these talented creators under one title with a shared theme. I can’t wait to see what Mark Schey and I have planned for the second year of production!”
Shane Molina, a concept artist involved in the project, added,
“When Chris and Mark approached me to work on concept art for Black Box Chronicles, I was thrilled. But then they suggested turning all my art into a book – it blew me away!”
For those craving a visual wonder from this universe to display among their collection, the Black Box: Design Space hardcover is available. It showcases a magnificent collection of schematic drawings and paintings of the various spaceships and technologies discovered within the stories of the Black Box Chronicles anthology. Illustrated by the talented concept artist, Shane Molina, this hardcover edition also features spot UV foil embellishments that add an extra touch of visual appeal.
