B-SIDES Volume 1 is an exciting new slice-of-life series that is set to take Kickstarter. Created and edited by Greg Bourne, this series promises to deliver a fresh and captivating experience for alt-culture enthusiasts worldwide. The lead story, crafted by Mike London, is brought to life with vibrant and dreamlike artwork by talented artists Rich Ivens, Hayley Dwan, and David Arguno. Adding to the immersive experience is the animation work by Theo Duberry, making B-SIDES a truly multi-dimensional experience.

At the heart of the series lies the B-Sides bar, serving as the pulsating soul of Sidetown. The bar is run by Gus, an enigmatic character who resides in an old airstream in the parking lot. Just outside the bar, you’ll often find Slippery Kev and Sketch, a Riff Rat duo, who offer their unique perspective on life. Beneath the bar’s floorboards hides the Riff Rats’ hidden speakeasy, where they navigate their own rat-sized world.

A regular open mic night is hosted by the slightly irregular Open Mike, a character whose name is as open as his personality. Meanwhile, next door, Sheena and Debs run Sounds Good, a vinyl record exchange that also doubles as Sounds Good Radio at the back of the store. And on the other side of the bar, you’ll find Bodhi’s Taco truck, serving the town’s finest tacos—except when the surf’s up and Bodhi and his sous chef Nacho are nowhere to be found.

Greg Bourne, the creative director of B-Sides, intricately weaves counterculture elements, such as skating, music, surfing, and street culture, into the series. He explains that the characters of Sidetown have organically taken on a life of their own, their stories unfolding before his eyes. In particular, the Riff Rats emerged from the background, capturing the hearts of both the creators and the audience, leading to a deeper exploration of their hidden world.

Bringing B-Sides to life has been a collaborative effort, with a team of talented individuals joining forces to create a truly immersive experience. Notably, the series features voiceover animation by Dex Carvey, Mike Masilotti, and Nolan Culver, as well as exciting cameos from guest star comedians and artists. The world of B-Sides is brought to life through QR codes within the pages, opening the door to animated content and additional surprises.
