Where the Body Was: Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips Dig Up Murder Mystery Series for Image Comics

Image Comics has announced a brand-new series titled Where the Body Was. This is a murder-mystery series from a duo of creators with multiple Eisner wins under their belts as Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips team up with colorist Jacob Phillips and the publisher.

The creators have previously worked together for the hit series Pulp, Reckless, Criminal, and Night Fever. Now, they are bringing us a decade-spanning murder mystery of a fateful killing enveloped in love, loss, passion, and violence.

Image‘s description of Where the Body Was reads:

A boarding house full of druggies. A neglected housewife. A young girl who thinks she’s a superhero. A cop who wants to be left alone. And a Private Detective looking for a runaway girl. These stories all collide one deadly summer in Where The Body Was—a tale of love and murder in the suburbs—told from a dozen different points of view. All the neighbors on the block have an opinion about the murder and how it happened, but which of them is telling the truth?

Speaking of the story he is telling, Brubaker said:

“This is a story I’ve been trying to find a way to tell for half my life. Inspired by a bunch of wild things that happened when I was a teenager in Southern California—from small time crimes to a murder plot—this book is kind of a diorama of a crime scene, with all the action confined to one small neighborhood… And it even comes with a map. I can’t wait for our readers to get their hands on this one, just in time for the Holidays.”

Brubaker and Phillips have already shown that they have chemistry in crafting great series and if that is not enough to draw you in then look no further than the narrative they are telling. Like any good true crime show, they are changing the scope of this story by telling us a long-form story spanning years and a dozen different points of view.

A story that has brewed in the mind of Brubaker for half of his life, has finally made bled onto the pages of this upcoming graphic novel and will spin a mystery for readers in a way they have never experienced before and that hook will sink itself into us and take us on this crazy fu***ng ride.

Where the Body Was will be available at your favorite local comic shop on December 6, 2023, and everywhere books are sold on December 12, 2023.
