Wakanda: Marvel Brings Together Creators For New ‘Black Panther’ Spin-off Series
Marvel Comics has announced a new limited series titled Wakanda. The new series will bring together an ensemble of creators from the comic book industry to shine a light on the expansive world of Black Panther’s homeland. The limited series will be a spin-off of John Ridley’s Black Panther series. With Wakanda exiling T’Challa, the proud nation moves forward without a king.
The new series will highlight different characters from the nation of Wakanda as they rise to the occasion when their nation needs them most. It will all kick off with Wakanda #1 from writer Stephanie Williams and artist Paco Medina. They will tell a story featuring Shuri.
The premiere issue’s description reads:
“In-depth tale about T’Challa’s genius younger sister and former Black Panther, Shuri. Shuri proves that being without the Black Panther doesn’t mean Wakanda is without heroes to protect it – and that there is a reason she too once wielded the power.”
Williams shared the love she has for the Black Panther universe, saying:
“I’ve been such a huge fan of the Black Panther over the years, especially the evolution and expansion of the women of Wakanda. It’s truly an honor to kick off the new series with the Shuri story I wrote. I hope I can add to her and Wakanda’s already impressive lore.”
Each issue will also feature a story featuring the “History of the Black Panthers” from History of the Black Panthers” backup story by writer Evan Narcisse and artist Natacha Bustos. This will mark the first time there has been an overview of all the Wakandans who have held the mantle of Black Panther.
Narcisse shared their excitement to contribute to the history of Wakanda, saying:
“I’ve been a fan of the charm and scale of Natacha Bustos’ work for a long time and am thrilled to collaborate with her on a new look at Wakanda’s history. The tale we’re telling will give readers a deeper look at how the Black Panthers of the past led the Unconquered Realm to glory and left a wondrous legacy that Emperor T’Challa still embodies.”
Wakanda #1 will be available at your favorite local comic shop and digitally on October 12th, 2022. Check out the cover by Mateus Manhanini with a variant by artist Artgerm:
