The Schlub: Get Ready to Experience the Greatest Superhero Comic in New Action/Comedy Series

Image Comics is releasing a new action/comedy, The Schlub. This ongoing series is brought to you by artist/writer Ryan Stegman and writer Kenny Porter who will be co-creating with artist Tyrell Cannon, colorist Mike Spicer, and letterer John J. Hill. This Freaky Friday-esque tale follows Roger Dalton when he’s body swapped with the world’s greatest superhero.

Image Comics’ description reads:

The Schlub follows failing dentist Roger Dalton who blames the world for his problems… up until he is body-swapped with the world’s greatest superhero. Can Roger save Earth and finally prove to his family he’s not a loser? Or are we all doomed?

Stegman shared that this idea has been one in the making for years, saying:

“A few years back I pitched Image a comic that I would write and draw about a Michael Scott/Kenny Powers type character if they became a superhero that the entire world relied on. It was approved and I had started work on it when Marvel came along and asked me to do a little book called Venom. I couldn’t say no, but I couldn’t shake this idea of the superhero that just can’t do the right thing. So I asked my buddies Kenny, Tyrell and John to help me make this book a reality and here we are! The greatest superhero comic book on the planet.

Porter chimed in to share that this series is created for comic fans such as them, saying:

We created The Schlub for people like us—comic fans who love big, bombastic superhero action wrapped around a heartfelt story. This is all about feeling like the world is against you and growing as a person—and I think that’s something we can all relate to.”

Cannon added:

“Drawing The Schlub is an absolute blast. I basically get to channel my lifelong obsession with action movies and comics into every issue. Having that big ‘i’ on our comic is the fulfillment of a dream I’ve had since picking up my first Image comic as a kid. I couldn’t be more stoked!”

Many of us dream of having superpowers and becoming superheroes but what happens when we are inadvertently put into the shoes of a superhero and have to take on the task of saving Earth? That is something that Stegman, Porter, and Cannon are going to be diving into and the creativity among these three creators is one of superhero proportions. Throw in comedy/action and the comparison to The Office‘s Michael Scott and there’s absolutely no reason to not give this comic a shot.

The Schlub #1 will arrive at your favorite local comic shop and digitally on August 23, 2023.
