Bruce Dickinson’s The Mandrake Project Limited Series Coming From Z2 Alongside Solo Album

Z2 Comics has announced an exciting collaboration with rock & roll frontman Bruce Dickinson for the release of an original comic series tied to his upcoming solo album, The Mandrake Project. This 12-issue limited series, titled Bruce Dickinson’s The Mandrake Project, is an epic saga of opposing forces vying for control of immortality through the powers of science and magic.

Bruce Dickinson has been developing the story for over a decade, and he brings it to life through his creative partnership with a team of renowned creators. The comic series features a script by Tony Lee (known for his work on Doctor Who, Marvel, and DC), art by Staz Johnson (Marvel, DC), lettering by Troy Peteri (Amazing Spider-Man, Witchblade), coloring by Gabo (DC, Image), and covers by multiple Eisner-winner Bill Sienkiewicz (Moon Knight, New Mutants).

The series is edited by Eisner and Harvey-winner Rantz A. Hoseley. The first taste of The Mandrake Project came with the release of the single “Afterglow of Ragnarok” on December 1. The Mandrake Project events will continue with a comic preview included in the special deluxe CD version of the album, accompanied by promotional appearances for the comic series and extensive worldwide touring throughout 2025.

Bruce Dickinson expressed his enthusiasm for the companion comic book, stating that the idea came to him early in the process of writing his new album. He approached Z2, who were recommended to him by Kurt Sutter (Sons of Anarchy, The Shield) and Sacha Gervasi (My Dinner with Hervé, Anvil).

Interestingly, Bruce’s management is already working with Z2 on the POM Maiden graphic novel to which Bruce contributed the Revelations story. Impressed by Z2’s track record, Bruce pitched them his fully formed concept and written storyline, which they immediately embraced and started developing with him.

Editor-in-Chief Rantz A. Hoseley contextualizes the series, likening it to iconic titles from Vertigo and highlighting the reader experience that Bruce desired for The Mandrake Project. Additionally, Z2’s President, Josh Bernstein, emphasizes the support for comic retailers and their efforts in making the series a success.

To celebrate the release, Z2 is offering 666 editions of Bruce Dickinson’s The Mandrake Project signed bundles to fans. These special bundles include a variety of collectible items, such as The Mandrake Project Foil Collector’s Card signed by Bruce Dickinson, a Felt Trading Card Pouch, Issue No. 1 of the comic series, a 1st Printing Certificate of Authenticity, and a Bill Sienkiewicz illustrated The Mandrake Project Art Print. These bundles will be exclusively available as a set at Z2comics.com.

The battle for immortality begins with the highly-anticipated release of Bruce Dickinson’s The Mandrake Project #1 at your favorite local comic shop and Z2Comics.com on January 17, 2024.
