The Holy Roller: Andy Samberg and Fall Out Boy’s Joe Trohman Join Remender and Boschi for New Image Series

Image Comics has announced a new series titled The Holy Roller. The upcoming series will see comedian Andy Samberg and Fall Out Boy‘s Joe Trohman teaming up with beloved writer Rick Remender who has penned series such as LOW, The Scumbag, and Deadly Class, and fan-favorite artist Roland Boschi whose art is featured in The Scumbag and Wolverine for this bowling-themed series that joins the growing library of titles joining Image from Giant Generator Studios.

The series features a pro bowler turned vigilante who returns to his hometown to care for his ailing father and finds that his home is now overrun by Neo-Nazis. As any true hero’s origin story goes, he uses the skills he has honed for years to fight in the name of justice and thus The Holy Roller is born. The series falls very much in the vein of Kingpin and Inglorious Basterds as the press release notes but also gives me the vibe of a hero that I would find trading blows alongside the Mystery Men.

Image Comics‘ description of The Holy Roller reads:

To care for his ailing father, pro-bowler Levi Coen is forced to quit his dream job and return to his hometown, which he soon discovers has been overrun by Neo-Nazis! With only his bowling ball collection to defend himself, Levi becomes THE HOLY ROLLER!

Samber shared that this comic is for those wondering where all the bowling ball-wielding vigilantes are, saying:

“If you have ever found yourself wondering, ‘Why is there no comic book about a vigilante hero who smashes people’s faces in with a bowling ball?’ you are in LUCK, bruv!”

Remender goes on to say:

“Sometimes the best stories start off as silly, over-the-top ideas that after a little while become clear to everyone in the room are actually great. This is one of those. This is a hilarious and poignant story, full of big action, and told from a place of real passion.”

Trohman added:

“This is an intensely personal book that will resonate with all. A hyper-stylized yarn, but informed by the bleak reality we’ve all come to know. It’s also your one-stop-shop for a bad-ass Jewish guy kicking, punching, and bowling-balling Neo-Nazis into oblivion!”

Any hero making his grand debut needs to do it in style and Image Comics plans to do just that with The Holy Roller which will debut with variant covers from some of our favorite artists including J.H. Williams III, Brett Parson, Keron Grant, Brian Level, Mike Hawthorne, and Rafael Albuquerque.

Roll a strike for justice when The Holy Roller #1 rolls into your favorite local comic shops and digital on November 22, 2023.
